Salut,
I. Max info
2. Actually, I am quit taken with the idea of QTVR's controller through a
sensor, and I think mabey some location stuff can be done this way. But I
am wondering if I can stop by one evening and get the rundown on Max, so
I'll be able to play too.
3. Is there somewhere in particular you would insure the camera , the
projector and the computer That I will be bringing?

Hi everyone. In case you're wondering I am alive and ready to jump in full
force now that my show is over. Yey!
I'm trying to figure out how best to help out. Not as intricately
technically skilled as you all, I think I'd be interested in some type of
performance thing whether that's for video stock or in camp itself. I could
help come up with some desert garb for those interested with the bit of
sewing/designing skills I have. Also, I wouldn't mind taking care of
logistics like meal planning, coordinating provisions and gear, & of course
jumping wherever you need me.

What do you all think?

Glad to be aboard at last!
-Rachael

this is a list of the stuff that I can think of that we need to bring to camp.
add what you can think of

(not including equipment for entertainment, tents, shade structures and personal stuff)
1.carpet for under tent and for in front of the video screen
2. glue
3. scissors
4. box cutter
5. cable ties
6. rope
7. string
8. needle and tread
this list now has its own page. go look at it!
9. tape
10. wooden mallet
11. screw driver
12. garbage bags
13. xmas lights
14. extension cords
15. needle and tread
16. grommets
17. sharp knife
18. tiki torches
19. lamp oil
20. radio
21. tin foil
22. paper towels
23. purell
24. church key
25. matches
26. Dr. bronners
27. sponges
28. foot bath
29. altiod boxes
30. toilet paper
31. first aid kit
32. binoculars
33. funnel

here's what I was thinking of for the marquee.
It could be made from a pole that we can hammer into the playa and a banner made out of canvass that
we can paint on. we can weigh it down on the bottom so the wind doesn't fling it around too much.
I was thinking of those old painted circus banners that were used to promote the bearded ladies and
monkey boys. I haven't decided on a design or what it will say other than Ishkabibble . . .tonight
playing . . .
I need suggestions.
So wadaya think?

jul 10

All,

Lisa, is not coming. (big surprise)
She wants to sell her ticket. $140 (but I have a feeling it's more like a best offer sorta thing)
any takers?

So are we going to have all the information in on time?
What am I responsible for.

Josh you owe me $10.

Carie

jul 6

so what day? what time?who? I think that there may be another person coming with us. I mentioned
her before (my old roommate) she has had her tickets since march, but I wasn't taking her seriously
about going until she bought her airline tickets, which I think she did the other day. Anyway, it's
totally up for discussion. If we don't want her in the RV, she can always bring a tent instead.
Did I get it right that bigjim is camping next door? Expanding. . . .
We do need to meet. I really need a sewing machine. Mine broke. Do we have one, know anyone that
would lend us one? We need to finalize shade structure stuff. blah blah blah. . .

jun 20

WOAH THERE!!
I'm not shocked, but woah. . .I'm having a little bit of . ..
surprise. what can we say. . . they love us new yorkers . . .

I guess this means that we have some work to be getting done.
We should have another meeting this week. Maybe weekly meetings would be a
good idea. We should really outline all the shit that needs to get done,
and when it needs to be done by, so it can be shipped out on time.

I'm working on changing my flight, I'm also working on getting a ride from
the airport. I looked at the message board and most of the people that are
ofering or looking for rides want to share rental cars and trucks and share
the cost. I just need a ride. I'm not sure who I can get to drive me to
the desert at 11 pm and I don't want to hitchhike. Hopefully I can change
my flight.

Any reaction to the sketch that I sent? It is very very abstract and only
ment as a jumping of point, so we can all visualize and agree on what is
needed and what we want things to look like.

I'm thinking that I'll make the pillows. This doesn't mean that if there
are already existing pillows people want to sacrifice to the desert we
shouldn't use them. The more pillows the better I say . . .but . . .I've
been making some strange soft sculpture for the past year and I think that I
could make some interesting things to sit upon. I made need help stuffing.
I am going to need help transporting to stuffing from the store to my
apartment. Anyone have a car? Anyone have sometime some day to help me
carry about 30 bags of fluffy stuffing into brooklyn?

That is pretty much all.
Oh, the ishkabibble logo. I need some suggestions.
I can't do this one on my own. What the fuck does ishkabibble mean anyways?
What are we all about?
ish ka bib bile.
hmmmm. . . .
Also does anyone have access to a good printer, that we could make a lot of
color prints on?

>How about putting the camera on top of the RV?

have you recieved the full color newspaper format burning man 2000
announcement or whatever it is?

Well, in it, theres an interveiw with L.H. and theres a question about the
RV's and their asthetic quality. . . being very poor. . and how they look
like trac housing and only detract from the cityscape. . . so maybe we
should think about that as well.
Ever seen the work of cristo, he wraps islands, churches, gallaries .
(my spellling is unforgivable)
maybe we should wrap the RV and use it as the screen and project something .
. .who knows what . . .onto it . . .or make something else out of it.
Fabric is cheep and versitile. it would look cool. . .

we need center camp. . . lets apply no later than monday.

or how about walking around with a camera (around the city and having it
projected onto our screen. The screen should cover the rv because they are
always, as a rule ugly. or, we could wear screeens ands shoot people
(cameras . . .

jun 12

Yes. . .yes yes yes
we want space in the camp. I have ideas. I do I do I do. I will have them
in digital from tommorow. I liked what I read was suggested at the meeting.
Do we have a video projector and a screen?
Do we have a video camera? Sound sound sound sound . . .microphones?
Speakers? motion sensors? light sensors?
Should we have a game? A challenge? A sport?

Here are somethings that I loved from past burns . . .
human soup, trade a soul, biancas (but that goes without saying) etch-
a-sketch, alien chess camp, printer camp (there was a lino press to make
art) any camps that are bars, de-programing camp . . .just a few to get you
thinking.

In my own art, I think a lot about voyerism, which we could really run with,
theme being the body and all. We can pretty much run with anything. . .
theme being the body and all, but it we have electricity and technology, we
ought to use it . . .

So heres a thought. . . simple but at least I can still have them. A
camera, that projectys real time onto a large screen, or maybe just a huge
cloth at we hang to be a screen. People can came along and "perform" for
the camera while others watch . . .We would have somesort of sound/motion
sesor istillation that people could be projected onto the large screen while
performing.
the body,
performance,
we could make costumes,
we-they could dress up . . .

thought 2
there could be a spcae that you stand in/walk thru and acording to your
height, the speed you travel trough and the movments that you make you
create diffent sound.
I'll explain better latter.
I'll draw some pictures.

we could have a fucking flea circus.

Yup yup yup yup. .

I looked at the Sony web page for John's projector:

check it out.

It mentions that the projection size runs from 40 inches (3'4") to 300 inches (25'). I'll wager that the best size for our screen is six feet. Does that sound right, John? We'll have the car parked like 10 feet away from the RV, or am I completely wrong?

Pots, utensils, etc are extra. We should bring them and fly them over-
their prices are nuts.

I am expecting there will be a garbage can in the RV; we will also want
one more for the Kelty shelter/movie audience area.

jul 11 (to burningman folks)

Hello wonderful Theme Camp folks!

Some additions and changes to the proposed plan for Camp Ishkabibble.

First, and most importantly, we have decided that we would love to show nightly movies/videos. We will have a projector, placed in a car fifteen feet from the RV. We're going to project movies on the side of the RV. We considered popcorn, but gave that idea up when we realized what a mess it would create.

Our revised camp map is at http://www.goldbergs.com/bm/2k/campsite.jpg. Please note the enlarged aspect, due to the extra campers, structures and camp functionality. We hope this does not present a problem.

We're going to have a set schedule of showings, which we will publicize via the radio stations and newspapers.

Sound will be amplified, but not unduly so. We will not rise above the decibel limit.

I hope this is enough information for you; I am always available to answer more questions and provide clarification at (917) 805-6843, or josh@goldbergs.com.

Thanks!

oh yeah- here's our new, improved Leave No Trace policy:
________________________________________________________

1. Theme Camp name: Camp Ishkabibble

We suggest you choose a clean-up foreman for your camp. This person should be the last person to leave the playa from your camp and will be held responsible if your Leave No Trace plan runs amok.

2. Clean-up foreman name and email : josh@goldbergs.com

3. How many members in your camp? 8

4. Describe your theme camp in terms of construction materials:

1 RV at the center, with an awning-like shade structure made out of PVC and rebar coming out of the outer side of the rv. This structure will be public, with rugs and pillows, as well as a few video installations.

There will be 2 or 3 additional tents, as well as an additional Kelty three-pole structure serving as a kitchen/chillout area.

5. What is your plan for discussing and having members commit to
helping with cleaning/packing up your camp?

All of our camp members have committed to the cleanup effort. ** None of us are leaving until we're done. **

6. What are your plans for trash disposal?

We will have an enormous supply of garbage bags, We are bringing an RV, which will have copious storage room for garbage bags. We are bringing two closed-lid garbage cans- one for the public chillout space, and one for the communal cooking area.

We will have rugs, so we will be bringing a dustpan and broom.

We will bring cheesecloth for straining out grey water. Disgusting, but necessary with an RV.

7. What are your plans for recycling?

All bottles and cans will be recycled- stored in the RV and taken back to Reno or Davis, CA.

The back of your ticket asks that every participant at Burning Man contribute 2 hours of playa clean up before departure.

8. Will you be volunteering time to our mass clean up on Sunday? yes, with conditions.

9. If so, in what capacity and for how long?

One member of our camp is required to be back in Reno on sunday evening. However, the RV is not leaving until we have been good citizens.

10. How many people from your camp will be helping? 5, at the least, with general playa cleanup.

jun 12

I like the idea of voyeurism. Always have, always will. As an intellectual concept as well as a turn on ;)

What about pointing cameras at other camps and playing the footage?

jun 9

I am very interested in how to match John's video portrait idea to an
interactive component.

I have an Egyptian water pipe- a hookah- which is used to smoke this
very aromatic slow burning apple tobacco. What about adapting this
thing so that the action of smoking it could manipulate the video rate
and/or frame size of the video that's playing on the projector?
Thermistors, pressure sensors...

Also- a reminder for all of you- I need your thoughts and plans, even if
you think they're stupid. The paragraph above is going on the site as
soon as it can. Mail snippets to me!

Here's an interesting article about the Burning Man intranet...

jun 22

hey there...

sorry 'bout my e-silence- I'm in the midst of the equivalent of finals for
my 3D animation class which is verrry time consuming- and cleaning up the
apartment to placate my roomie- and starting at this Icast place next
week, and freelancing,.... oi. But I got a chance to look at your sketch-
which is definitely kewl... I can't seem to find the logo on Josh's site
yet tho, so I don't have much to say yet (I'm really curious- I'm sure
it's amazing). Here are a couple questions maybe you or Josh could
answer...

1) is that a telly in the sketch? where does the projector go?

2) I would love to figure out a way to enclose the space a pit more and
make it seem more like the den of some decadent pasha. Perhaps I should
try to explore where we could find some material for cheep drapery.

Also, Will we get to paint up the sides? I think it would look cool to
use some imagery of the 'Funky Cool Medina', the section of the kasbah in
Tangier occupied by the Stones at some point and looks really wacked
out. I will try to find some pictures.

Ugh- gotta run- but did you get my e-mail? I am free this weekend, don't
know what my schedule with Icast is going to be like next week, it could
be hairy. But let's plan on either Tuesday night or Thursday for me...

PS. Once I have my shedule worked out (and my class ends next week) I
will be a lot more available, and ready to put in all the work necessary
to get this thing of the ground. Look forward to meeting with you guys.

what kind of setup do we have for sound amplification? i'm planning to
bring a mobile audio rig of some sort and would love to not have to buy an
amplifier...

amps are HEAVY. bringing one is pretty inconcievable. is someone driving
across country who can put one in their trunk? if so, i can probably
sucker sean kaplan into letting me take the stud pro. he owes me one. my
other amps are out of the question--they're just too valuable.

i have some stereo speakers and an old power amp i'd be willing to
potentially sacrifice, also, if that's what it comes down to. the key
issue is transportation. otherwise, we go to junk stores in san francisco
and see what we can find, no?
